Renovation to new-construction standards
A home that finds new strength
At Königsberger Platz 8–12, a residential building was so completely renovated that it looks more like a new construction than a simple modernization. The 72 apartments were gutted down to the shell and rebuilt in just ten months. The result is compact two-bedroom apartments that are particularly well-suited for single- and two-person households—a housing need that is constantly growing and difficult to meet in many places. Clear, barrier-free floor plans and balconies in all apartments ensure comfort and quality of life.
Environmental sustainability
Save energy, protect the future
The renovation brings the building up to the energy efficiency standard of a KfW 40 home. New windows, insulated components, and ventilation systems with heat recovery keep heat where it’s needed. District heating ensures stable heating costs. The result is a residential building that consumes significantly less energy and remains reliable in operation.
Social Responsibility
More than just housing – a boost for the neighborhood
KP812 reinforces Königsberger Platz as the heart of a newly emerging neighborhood. The renovation brings a long-neglected building back into use and serves as a visible symbol of the development of the entire surrounding area. All apartments are barrier-free, ensuring that many people—regardless of age or mobility—can find suitable living spaces here. The clean design extends into the square and contributes to the revitalization of the neighborhood. This creates a momentum that extends far beyond the building itself.
Innovation
Technology that runs quietly in the background
All the pipes in the building have been replaced. The renovation of the water, heating, and sewage systems brings the building up to the technical standards of a new construction. The combination of modern building technology and a clearly structured renovation demonstrates how the modernization of existing buildings can work today: efficiently, sustainably, and with a significant improvement in living comfort.

Rheindorf: Diversity and Contrasts with Heart and Character
The new blends harmoniously with the old, and the vibrant bustle of city life flows seamlessly into quiet spots offering a place to retreat. In the north, a neighborhood centered around Königsberger Platz emerged in the 1950s, featuring residential spaces, shops, and businesses. To the south lies the historic district, first mentioned as early as the 12th century—located directly on the Rhine.
