Tips for Dealing with the Heat
How to keep your apartment as cool as possible in the summer
On hot days, apartments heat up quickly. However, with a few simple steps, you can significantly reduce the heat inside. It’s especially important to keep the heat out of your home in the first place.
Air out the room in the morning and evening
The best time to let fresh, cooler air into your home is in the early morning or in the evening.
- Open the windows wide in the morning and evening
- create as much airflow as possible
- Keep the windows closed during the day
Keep rooms dark during the day
Direct sunlight heats up rooms very quickly.
That's why it helps:
- Lower the blinds early
- Close the curtains or blinds
- Cover skylights if possible
Avoid additional heat sources
Electrical appliances also give off heat.
Therefore:
- Turn off devices when they are not in use
- Turn on as little additional light as possible
- Use the oven or stove only in the morning or evening, if possible
Provide additional cooling
While fans don't actually cool the air, they can make rooms more comfortable by creating a breeze. If you use an air conditioner, you should try not to set the temperature more than 6 °C below the outside temperature.
Stay cool during these hot days!
